Knowing he’d have to face Jazz’s family at the breakfast table made Ryan feel incredibly self-conscious. He liked them well enough, but somehow, knowing that this time they knew exactly what he had done with Jazz set his teeth on edge.

“Jazz?”

“Yeah?” Jazz looked up sleepily, still wearing the satisfied, sexy smile that made Ryan’s body shudder with the memory of desire.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Isn’t that a question already?”

Ryan gently nudged him in the ribs.

“Seriously.”

Jazz grinned cheekily. “Seriously.”

“Stop it or I’ll have to punish you.”

“Hmm. What exactly do I have to do to make you?”

“Don’t tell me you still haven’t had enough!” Ryan stared at him incredulously.

Chuckling, Jazz shook his head. “Just teasing. I’m spent. Don’t think I can take any more for a week. Plus, I guess I’m gonna have trouble walking straight as it is.”

“I guess that is pretty much impossible anyway, seeing as you’re queer.”

Jazz frowned at him. “Lame.”

“It kind of is what I wanted to ask you though.”

“Go on then.”

“Your family...” Ryan started cautiously, once again painfully aware that, although thoroughly acquainted with Jazz’s body, he still didn’t have a clue about what was going on in his mind.

Understanding instantly, Jazz smiled. “Don’t worry. They know.”

“Are they okay about it?”

“Let’s say my parents would still much rather see me hooked up with a nice woman and give them lots of cute, little grandchildren with rosy, round cheeks, but they respect my choice.”

“And your brother?”

Jazz raised one eyebrow and chuckled. “What do you think?”

“Well, uh, he seems rather protective of you.”

“Yeah, I guess he is. Don’t think too much of it though, It’s just that he wants to be the only one who gets to abuse me.” His expression turned serious as he looked at Ryan, so apparently Ryan’s scepticism was showing on his face.

“We fight a lot, but basically we’re pretty close. He—” He drew a quick, deep breath. “I suppose he knows me far too well and is determined to keep me safe.”

“But?” Ryan prompted gently.

“He hasn’t always succeeded,” Jazz answered quietly, rolled over, and got out of bed.

This was among the best prompts Ryan could hope to get and there was no way he was going to waste it. “Let me guess. Alastair?” he asked compassionately.

Frowning, Jazz stared at him. “Alastair? How do you know about Alastair?”

“You talked about him to your mother.”

“Oh. Right. Um. Alastair. Well, he is… a long story, really.”

“I don’t mind long stories. It’s not as though I have anything planned, you know,” Ryan said lightly but Jazz shook his head.

“He’s not the kind of story to talk about, um, before breakfast.”

“Fair enough. Although, if it’s not asking too much, it would be nice to know if you’re still seeing him because I’m not really a two-timing kind of guy.”

The frown on Jazz’s face deepened. “Seeing him? What are you on about?”

“Well, the way you were talking about him, I figure he’s your boyfriend—or was, at least.”

“Oh, crap.” Sighing, Jazz ran his fingers through his hair, and then a half-amused, half-grim snort escaped him.
